The first 2-day symposium entirely devoted to dyspnea was in Manchester England in 1965. The second such meeting was in San Diego in 2005. Leaders in dyspnea research summarized their views of the state of the field, which had changed considerably since 1965. Other experts ran workshop-discussions in several topics.
