HobbiesPermalinkAfter several weekends of help doing body work and block sanding 4 times on my buddies 65 Chevelle Pro Street Car , we got it into a friends of his body shop , so I could spray the color on it .
It was a long day Saturday , as we had to load the car on a trailor ( 7:30 AM ) , and haul the doors , fenders , and deck lid to the shop , then unload it all and get the car masked up in one booth , and all the parts in the other booth .
Started spraying sealer and base color on everything at around noon , then we had to let the paint dry , so we could bolt the deck lid on the body , so I could lay out the Black SS stripes , which took a little time , then we had to mask off the whole car , so no over spray would get on the rest of the car . once the black was dry enough to unwrap , it was on to spraying 4 coats of clear . Finished it at 6:00 PM
The reason I sprayed so much clear on it was because we are going to sand the clear with 1200 grit then 2000 grit sand paper then buff to a glass finish , and doing this cuts off 1 to 2 layers of clear , and you need to have a minium of 2 coats of clear over the base for UV protection .
He got the car home today , and all his friends came over to get a look at his car , and they were amazed at the out come. They didnt think a job that nice could come out of working out of an old garage .
I cant wait for him to get it all built by spring as I want a ride in this puppy !
