Suggested Career Path Science Sequences for Deer
Valley High School Students (Draft November 2003)
The table below shows the course offerings at each grade level, and
what sorts of requirments and recommendations each course offered meets. Most
students should plan on taking 3 or 4 years of science if
they plan to attend college (for any major)
or 4 years if they plan follow any career requiring any knowledge
of science. This table is a draft document and is still being reviewed
by the Science Department and DVHS Administration.
Consider the following table of college majors, which appeared in

Chemical engineering: $51,853

You should note the top three require advanced science degrees such
as physics or chemistry.
Career Path Descriptions:
Entry Level: Prepares the student for college
entry for majors which do not emphasize science or for beginning level
jobs which do not require an advanced scientific background. Examples
of careers include accounting, clerical, warehouse management, sales,
animal husbandry, service careers.
Technical Level: Prepares students for applied
science or technical careers. Meets most requirements for college admission
in most majors. Example careers include medical technicians, research
assistants, computer programmers, paramedics, law enforcement, automotive
repair, journalism, etc.
Professional Level: Prepares students for
advanced science careers such as doctors and nurses, research scientists
or university positions, astronomers, physicists, engineering (mechanical,
electrical, and others), chemists, environmental analysts, inventors,
computer engineering, and others.
