Partners and Funding Agencies
California Department of Education's Specialized Secondary Program
has provided (spread through four years) $250,000 in funding in support
of curriculum development, equipment purchases, salaries for Academy
personnel, and much more.
East Bay Computer Using Educators provided us with a $900 grant for
developing educational modules for use in our physical science and physics
classes using web cams to videotape motion and other phenomena.
Antioch Unified School District
provides facilities, grant management support and accounting services,
allows Academy classes to be taught
and approves curriculum changes.
Deer Valley High School provides
planning expertise for the development for the academy concept and the
strong support from our Principal. The
DVHS Library is cooperating and assisting in the placement of the planetarium
facility and important contacts and advice.
Teacher Leaders in Research
Based Science Education provides training for research based
projects for students, access to professional astronomers, curriculum
for the
research course, and funding for teachers to attend science conferences.
Hands On Universe at Lawrence Hall
of Science provides curriculum for the planetarium production class,
access to the HOU telescope network for remote imaging, and the director
serves on our steering committee. LHS also plans to donate their old
planetarium equipment to us when they complete plans for renovation.
Contra Costa County Office of Education and the Dean and Margaret Lesher
Foundation provided funding for the cardboard
dome web site developed
as a result of a CTAG grant.
SETI Institute provides access to specialized curriculum, and
important contacts and advice.
RA1420 Radio Telescope Project provides
design and logistical support for the development of a permanent, steerable
radio telescope facility mounted on the roof of the school. Funding for
this project was was based on a grant which was entirely student written
and supported in part through the Antioch Education Foundation and a
generous donation of equipment (a steerable radio telescope dish) and
time from the Seatel Corporation of Concord.
Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society provides
access to speakers on a variety of topics at its monthly meeting in Concord.
The past president serves on our steering committee, and the public star
parties on Mount Diablo and monthly public lectures are often attended
by Academy students.
AstronomyTeacher.com provides
hosting for academy web pages, and a venue for students and teachers
to publish interesting research and ideas.
