Applications should be turned in to House 3.
How to Apply to be in the ESPACE
Academy
Prior to Applying:
You should plan to take more math and science than is required to merely
graduate. Talk to a teacher in the academy about your course registration
plans. Work hard in your math and science courses, and keep your "eye
on the prize." Hard work early can pay off with extra opportunities
for you later.
For many students, a high school course sign-up plan looks like this:
- Sign up for courses your friends take.
- During your junior year make sure you have all your requirements
for graduation covered. Spend lots of time with freshmen and sophomores.
- During your senior year beg to be placed in classes required for
college admittance.
- Graduate, get rich, make a profit!
Unfortunately this plan is followed by too many students, which leads
to disappointment in college choices and the downgrading of grandiose
plans. Students need to plan ahead and think about what they would
like to accomplish at graduation. Plans should be realistic and should
tell a story about yourself which says you can take a long-term view
and finish what you start. We can help during the application process
for the academy and beyond.
How to Submit an Application.
1. Download a set of forms from the web site
or get blanks from the House 2 office. Be sure to get the checklist of
forms to make sure you have them all.
2. Consult with teachers to complete your course plan. You might consult
the science
department career pathway page and the science
department course catalog for more information about science courses.
(NOTE: the course plan shows us you are planning ahead. There is no rule
that says you cannot change your mind later--but you should consult with
us when doing so.)
3. Find two teachers to fill out the recommendation
form for you.
4. Complete the student contract and student interest form.
5. Complete the internet permission form and the publishing release
form. (links pending)
6. Have your parents complete the parent information form.
7. Put all the forms together in a manila folder. If you wish, you may
include a cover letter and samples of your past work.
8. Turn the entire
packet
into the House 3 office.
