Fall 2006 Specialized Secondary Grant Demo Day

The planet Mercury will pass in front of the sun from 1 - 4 PM on Wednesday, November 8, and you can have a front row seat while the observations are taking place.

This year we have planned content-based workshops and visits for schools interested in the ESPACE academy. Our first workshop is at the same time as the planet Mercury passes in front of the sun, called a "transit." This is a relatively rare event and will not happen again for about 10 years. We will have students working on the project even as we meet for the workshop. You can see student researchers in action and learn about our program at the same time.

During this demo day students will collect data for eventual use in a science fair project and report. Teachers can observe the equipment and techniques first hand during an actual astronomical event. During the event you can see a professionally produced planetarium show, learn how DVHS students conduct research and outreach projects, and get information about conducting science fair projects. Student presenters will explain research and outreach projects and answer questions. Held at the DVHS Library and Planetarium.
