Welcome to the Deer Valley High School Science Department Web Site
You will find information here about all sorts of things, categorized on the left side of this page.
Our school is a large suburban high school located in southeast Antioch, California. We have over 3300 students enrolled at DVHS, organized into teams and houses. A team is a group of students at the same grade level who share the same teachers. These teachers all have the same planning period so they can create interdisciplinary tasks and consult about students having difficulty. All students on a team have the same English, Math, and Science teacher.
Our teams are sorted into houses, which are schools-within-a-school with its own principal, secretaries, classrooms, courtyard, and so on. There are four houses, plus a number of classes which are not assigned to particular teams and are collectively called electives, such as art, technology, and physical education.
If you are new to our school, freshmen and sophomores will be assigned to a team upon enrollment. Juniors and seniors take mostly elective classes although some collaboration still occurs among core classes such as English and Math. One of the goals of the science department is to increase enrollment in science elective courses.

1. Increase science enrollment in elective classes.
2. Prepare students to make career choices in science.
3. Get students excited about science by having them participate in relevant, realistic, hands-on science activities.
4. Improve scores on state-mandated standardized assessments.
5. Support each other in our efforts to become better professional science educators.
6. Connect all major activities and course descriptions to the California Science Standards, and analyze course descriptions and test results for standards we may not be meeting.
