I was the Video Engineer on this one, which ran from the 17th-19th at the Grand Wailea. The TD brought his own switcher, so I basically had the first 4 hours of the first day to learn it. Not too bad - software driven switcher through an RS-232 port, but it's missing the simplicity and power of a Folsom ScreenPro (which is what it appeared to be emulating). All in all, it wasn't that painful...
The setup was just a bad day, I put video world together and got it all up and running, then went out to test/focus projectors, to find that no one had been setting up the projectors - on top of that, once they had been setup, I had two bad 5-wire runs to fly when everyone was at lunch. So, basically, it was a 15 hours day with no meal, or break, whatsoever...
That evening, about two hours before letting us out of there, the TD fired the graphics guy (who couldn't keep up and couldn't quit with the attitude - both at the same time), so we had to spend the next few hours with the new guy making sure all was well...
In all actuality, once the one guy was gone, everything else fell into line. He was also the guy who was suppose to hang the projectors, and check the lines for me earlier in the day - so, after the day I had due to his "whatever", I wasn't upset to see him go...
I've never actually seen someone get fired from a show like that, so I kinda feel bad for the guy - but it was definately earned. Besides, the guy who replaced him was way better - at both the graphics and working with people...
Anyway, at the end of the show, the TD was extremely happy with everything - and he may be flying me out to Arizona for a few gigs in the future (we'll see)... |
