Spent the Friday-Tuesday on this one - it was at the Ritz in Kapalua. About 10 presentations a day. I ran graphics and switched video. Piece of cake...
Something to always keep in mind. I never like to plug into the walls at these hotels. I've seen too many bad things happen. This show was a prefect example of why. On Sunday morning, about 10 minutes before show time, my stage left projector and video DA died (so both projectors were out & the 1024 at the podium). I went over there to check it out and found that everything in that quarter of the ballroom was dead (including the chandallier and overhead lights). So I found an AC cable and ran it to the nearest working AC I could find - projectors came back up. 4 hours later, when switching to camera, the 1024 was dead (we didn't have time to test it) - so we had to bypass it altogether and run the camera straight BNC to the folsum...
Anyway, it was a big deal to the client (their animosity was directed at the hotel, not me - thankfully they got that right). We lost camera for 5 minutes or so. A spider box dedicated to the show would have relieved all the problems from the get-go. I did not set the show up, I walked in at 14:00 in the afternoon on Friday and they had already set the show for me...
But, once again, this is why I ask for the things I ask for - experience...
It may not happen 99 times out of 100, but that one time it happens - you're gonna wish it didn't... |
