| Hyatt Christmas Party | | Date Created: Dec 14, 2005, 06:29 AM |
Yesterday started out as a simple install for Erick at the Grand Wailea (their employee Christmas Party). We were going to preset as much as possible, so that when the rest of the crew showed up (today) all we would have to do is the "big stuff". We pushed all that Erick had for the show out to the ballroom, and the AVHQ's driver showed up. We went out and got all that he had brought. Someone had forgotten to call the shop and let them know what we were going to do that day, cause all they sent was the Audio Gear that we did not need until this morning. We called them and asked them to send another run, this time all we needed was cable so we could make the cable runs from backstage to FOH (A/C, Triax, DMX). Basically we just wanted to get these runs out of the way before this morning, cause it's "up and over" everything, and sucks to do with people in the room working...
In the meantime, AVHQ called me with a dilemna. They need an operator for the Hyatt's employee Christmas show, and they needed the operator to be there by 15:00. I told them I'd talk to Erick and see what was up, he was more than cool with it (cause we couldn't do anything with what we had anyway). So I headed to the Hyatt.
While on the way to the Hyatt, I found out that Erick is loaning me to Joe at the KeaLani for the second half of the day tomorrow (which is now today), and the next day, to op for him as well. So I'm setting up with Erick this morning, Setting up and doing a walk-through with Joe this afternoon. Tomorrow morning, I'm striking with Erick, and then op'ing for Joe in the evening...
Anyway, I get to the Hyatt and the setup is (for the most part) already done. I just had to test everything and mark everything - come to find that I am the only op for the evening, so I had to test EVERYTHING and mark EVERYTHING...
My show position was Lighting Tech, Audio Tech, Video Tech, Tape Op, Graphics Op, and a little spotlight. I was basically surrounded by boards - from left to right: Audio Board, Video Switcher, Laptop for Graphics, DVCAM for playback, wireless kit for Audio, Lighting Board with full room control, and directly behind me was the spotlight. I made a U-Shape table so I could reach it all comfortably and quickly...
From what I gather, there were suppose to be three people op'ing this show (Audio, Video, and Lighting), and another two (Graphics and Tape Op) helping them. As it turns out, it was just me showing up a few hours before the show "gettin' it done"...
Actually, I enjoy this type of show - I always have something to dom makes time go by fast.
I walked away from the show when the DJ came on at 21:00. One of the PSAV guys stuck around to turn everything off (the computer and DVCAM were already gone and I turned off the folsum and the wireless already) - all that was left was the Audio Board (for the podium mic - just in case) and the projectors (DJ was playing music videos to the projectors)...
Another day on my island - actually, this was a really fun one... |
