| Nutcracker at the MACC | | Date Created: Nov 25, 2005, 07:05 PM |
I spent Sunday through Wednesday setting this one up - I helped out Mark with the lighting. I still totally have mixed feelings working there, but I figure I spent 2+ years of my life building the place and would do anything for Rusty or Mark, so going back is good for me on occassion. That is, it is good for me as long as I stay within the confines of the Castle Theatre, cause just looking at the computer system depresses me (I did a lot of work on it, and the new guy doesn't know anything other than MS, so everything I did to secure that network is gone - and he totally sold the brass on it's security)...
Let me just say this: Security is, not letting someone in your network in the first place; Security is not, reacting to log files which show someone has already been there - the deed is done by then dude!...
Anyway, don't get me started...
Kind of a funny week actually. I had previously booked a show today at the Grand, but halfway through the week the "Crew Chief" (Rusty was out of town, Amy is about to have her kid, and Mike was unavailable, so it was none of the regular people) decided that she would like me to stick around for the run of the show (basically today, through Sunday). So I contacted the guys for my other gig and worked everything out with them so I could make the call today at the MACC (10 am this morning). After getting all that settled (two days of phone calls, you know how it is), they cut the Deck LX's from the show - which means that after going through all that to make sure I could make it to the call time this morning, they cut me from the show.
I actually saw it coming. Again, that is another topic - moving on...
Luckily, I was able to get a hold of the right people within just a few minutes of finding this out - I got booked through Monday and got to meet the new DOS for PSAV at the GW. I see a lot of good things happening in the next few months over there - I think this guy is gonna make a positive impact in a very short time (he has a good plan laid out already)...
What a week!
Just got a "Funny Ha-Ha" Ending to the story. The Crew Chief for the Nutcracker just called me and wanted to know if I could make the call tomorrow cause someone cancelled on them. Am I that much of a pushover to think I would even call her back after the previous debacle? This amateur crap has to go - Rusty, Mark, Amy, Mike, call me if you need me, but don't give an amateur my number - Please, Please, Please!
What's the difference between an amateur and a pro? There are a few differences (I think I will make a long list of these and put them up sometime, for fun):
1) When a "Yes" is a "Yes" and a "No" is a "No", you are dealing with a pro. When the previous sentence does not stand, you are dealing with an amateur...
2) When the person running the crew can do every position on the crew, you are dealing with a pro. If not, then not. Reason being, you have to jump in and get down and dirty more often than not - if you don't know what you're doing (due to lack of experience), or can't do something (due to lack of intelligence, coordination, and/or strength) you should really rethink your chosen profession...
Besides, I'M BOOKED!!! |
