Just got done, for the most part, with Panda Express show today. We still have to strike tomorrow, but the show itself is pau. Fooled em again...
It was a fun show - the incoming crew (actually they were more of a production team) were very cool and very good (which is a great combination if you have to work with someone in this atmosphere for a week).
The first day was the typical setup stuff - fairly large setup in the GW ballroom. It was kinda cool in that they wanted us to show swag in the line runs and they wanted video world to be slightly stage left, out in the open, with the back's of the techs to the crowd so the crowd could see the monitors and such. Usually everything is hidden away, but they wanted the crowd to see it all - by the way the crowd was about 1,200. Pretty large setup all around for Audio, Video, and Lighting...
The second day, I did the Audio setup and show for the Chapel Lawn and the pool area next to it. They had to fit 1,000+ people out there, so it was quite an event. We actually had to run our delays wirelessly to keep from making long cable runs across high traffic areas. It all worked out and was very cool. It was just a D.J. coming into the board, so once the setup was complete it was a piece of cake gig from there.
The D.J. actually ran the whole show off his Powerbook using iTunes. Basically the same way I did my sound check, he did the show. After seeing that: Dude! I'm gonna start DJ'ing these things! By the time the strike was done, we got out of there about 24:00...
The third day was a video setup out in Molokini Gardens. Two screens on either side of the stage being fed by a Folsom, with a downstage monitor for preview. My video station was FOH and I had BETA, (2) Cameras, and a Graphics machine to switch to the screens with. FOH Camera was recorded throughout the show (and live through most of it as well). Piece of cake. Kevin did a fantastic job covering the show with the FOH camera!
Basically, it was an awards show followed by Tihati's Hula Show. So we were just going from graphics to camera and back throughout the awards and then let the camera do it's thing throughout the hula show. We could've had better lighting for the camera, but you can't expect guys who do not know video to light for it. I just rode the CCU throughout and it worked. Struck it and called it at 24:00...
Today we just turned the ballroom around for tonights show - which is probably running as I write this. I helped with the P&D and the white spandex and then kind of got recruited by Big Joe to set the backline on stage when time was running short. We had it setup and good-to-go on time for the exception of a bad fender amp (which hopefully got replaced by now), but for the most part everything was up and running before I called it a day at 17:00...
Got the ballroom strike in the morning and then have a few days off till the next one starts... |
