Got a Nextel Blackberry 7520

I waited till the lawsuit was over and went for it. I don't know why I waited - the lawsuit wouldn't have effected my usage anyway...

All I wanted was an editable address book and calendar on my nextel - and I got it! What's the coolest feature? The addressbook syncs with my mac address book and the calendar syncs with iCal - I'm very stoked about this...

The only bad feature: To add most services, you need to pay the monthly for the web. As it works out, most things for the nextel blackberry can only be downloaded via the web client on the phone - which means you have to pay the extra $40/mo just to download ring tones...

I'd say, about 99.99 percent of the programs/accessories for the blackberry have to be downloaded via the web client on the phone itself. I was bummed to find this out, but it's cool - all I wanted was a nextel with an editable calendar (which is exactly what I have)...

The OS on the phone is Java though - which means, when I have a little time this summer, I can write a hack which will allow me to access wireless networks (such as my own wireless routers)...
Once I have the wireless access going, I can load the mozilla browser (one of the few programs which you can install via computer sync) into it and download to my hearts content, I can also use this same method to check my pop email account/s...

Doesn't make sense to me that I have to write a hack to do this - it should be built in - but whatever! I'm already paying like $40/mo, and they want to lock me in for another $40/mo on top of that. That is unacceptable to me...

I know the simplicity if these devices, and the networks which run them - nothing to do with this is worth an extra $40/mo...
