| The 1560 Geneva Bible | | Date Created: May 29, 2006, 01:06 PM |
| Since it's Memorial Day and all - I'm gonna do the only thing I know how to do to celebrate the men and woman who served in the name of "God and Country". I can think of no better way of celebrating my "brothers in arms" than to give freely, to the world, the book that started America. This is a copy of the Bible that my family brought to America in 1630. This book was the first book printed (in largescale) in the English Laguage, the First English Language Textbook, the first full translation of the Bible to English from the Original, the first Bible to break into "Chapter and Verse" for easy reading, and the only Bible in America through the 17th and (most of the) 18th Centuries. The "1560 Geneva Bible" and "The Message" are the only two Bibles I read - they are the only two beyond reproach as far as the translation of the original languages, to english, go; and they are the only two beyond reproach as far as why they were translated. Most others are (in one way or another) a derivative of the King James Bible (not "translations" from the original books), which was written to appease a King who practiced beastialty, homosexuality, and sadistic tendencies towards other humans, daily (his character is so well documented, that there is no doubt that all of this is true). He did not like the translation, or notes, within the Geneva Bible because they gave people the idea that the King was not all powerful - this was not an idea he wanted his people to have. He commisioned another version which would reflect his views - the King James Bible made its way to America (in large volume) with the English & Scottish Immigration of the mid-to-late 1800's, while the Bible that began America (The Geneva Bible) is all but forgotten by a few scholars. The Geneva Bible was the Bible of Shakespeare and other thinkers of his day, America's first settlers, and America's Founding Fathers - without it, there would be no America. Everything that America was founded on, and for, came from this book... |
