ROTC/Recruiters in school

My wife was just looking at this video of these people complaining about the lack of adjustment to civilian life after their Gulf Tour. The person who emailed the link to her is trying to get all ROTC and Recruiters banned from doing what they do at the schools here on Maui...

From what I gather, and I have not looked into this at all (cause it seems like a real non-issue for me), people are really upset cause the recruiters are calling their sons and daughters...

OK, so, first off - all the people in that video looked like the typical whiner to me. So basically someone got all these people together and made a video of them bitching about their life, and they blame it on the military...
I'll never forget one time during the 1st Gulf War. We were loading a few tanks with these marines and one of them, right there in front of us, just lost it. We had no idea what it was all about till he looked over at his buddy and said, "I joined for the GI Bill, I had no idea there was gonna be a war!" What was he thinking? He was a marine! What do you join the Marines for?!
Anyway, the military is just like anywhere else. You have those who whine and those who do the work. Basically, what you have is 2-5% of the American population fighting for the freedoms of all Americans; of that 2-5% about 50% actually do something. So, at any given time, what you have is about 2% of the population fighting for the rest - that's 2% fighting for something they do not have, 98% abusing it...

I think the biggest problem is that people are not properly trained to do what they need to do. You seldom see a SpecOps warrior with major issues. Reason? Because their training is intended to be 10 times harder than anything they will face in the field. For the typical soldier, just the opposite is in effect, the field is 10 times harder than anything they had to do in training. I don't know what people are thinking as far as training a "PC-feel-good" military - these guys are fighting a war, that is their job! To train them properly, you have to kick their ass! When I heard about the training that these guys get now, I couldn't believe it! My 12 year old nephew could do that right now!

Anyway, to continue, SpecOps do not wait for the fight to come to them (they take it to the enemy), the typical soldier is a sitting duck (and anticipation of anything is usually worse than the event itself). The intensity of PTSD is directly related to how long you are waiting for the event to happen, how often (or not) the event happened, and to what degree were you ready for it...

How do you remedy this? Make sure your SpecOps. How? Train, train, and train. Get to know everything you need to know before going to your recruiter. By the time you talk to your recruiter, you should already be in shape (physically and mentally). You need to go to him knowing what you want, and make sure to get it in writing...

Now that I have a son, I understand what my Dad must have felt (and his Dad before him, and his before him and so on). I hate the idea of my son being in that position - he's not even 1 year old and I'm thinking of this already. The way I see it, every man in my line has been in the military since 1630 (when we came to America). We have always been the ones to stand on the fence while everyone else was asleep. Someone has to fight for what we believe in, someone has to assure that my Grandchildren have the freedoms which we hold so dear. 98% of the people reading this are not going to do it - they would rather abuse their freedom than fight for it. I'm not going to depend on you, or your children, to secure the freedom for my family - and, like it or not, your freedom was bought with blood - and, like it or not, blood is the only way to secure it...

So, what do I do? I do the same thing my Dad did. Instill an immense love for God and his son Jesus Christ, The Family, and (the idea of) America - and make sure he knows what is right and what is wrong, and make sure he "knows how to do what he needs to do" to accomplish what he sets his mind on. What does that mean? That means my wife and I are taking the responsibility of raising my children - they will be home schooled. They will not have to be held back with the rest of the class for the slowest person in the class. They will not be subjected to all the other BS that comes with children and school. They will not have someone elses values and belief system.
What will they have? A rock solid education. True friends. And extra time...
That means I can teach them to hunt, fish, trap, read a map, read a compass, boil water in the field, find other "things-to-eat", and camp (the real way). I can teach them life with and without computers, do real life geology, oceanography, chemistry, biology, and physics trips...

I will not tell my son (or daughter for that matter) that he needs to go into the military, but I will prepare him for it (in case that is his choice). He will have the knowledge, the tools, and the drive to be whatever he wants to be - and the morals to do what is right no matter what...

When it comes down to it, I think that's what this "ROTC/Recruiter" thing is all about. People are not preparing their children for the real world anymore (especially on Maui) - in all actuality, people are not even raising their kids anymore, but that's another story. I have never seen a more un-patriotic bunch of people in one place in my life (and I grew up in California!).

Most of the parents I know (here on Maui), simply do not teach their children that there are consequences for their actions - they teach their children (by not punishing them) that they can do whatever they want and get away with it. My sons generation will be an entire generation of Anarchist - literally, everyone will do what they want, when they want, with no regard for consequences (until they get caught of course - and then they'll cry to mommy)...

Maui, and the State of Hawaii in general, is totally Democrat (as opposed to Republican). So let me just quote the poster child of the Democratic Party for a moment: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." If you don't know who said that, you need to go back to school and demand an education!

`Nough said...
