MPEG Append for OS XMPEG Append is a well established tool for preparation of MPEG files for use with DVD Studio Pro. MPEG Append and its derivatives are based on a common engine that appends a specially named series of MPEG files together into a single output file with continuous drop-frame timecode. MPEG Append also honors markers placed by Final Cut Pro and attached to the MPEG video file by the QuickTime MPEG Export component. All markers are collected, adjusted and inserted into the final file. Additional markers are added at the join points between files. After MPEG Append, came a series of specialty applications that perform additional operations on the MPEG file as it is appended. The special functions are:
To use MPEG Append or one of the special versions, just drop the first file of the sequence on the application. You will have an opportunity to specify the output file name and location then the process will begin. The completed file is ready for use in DVD Studio Pro. All of these functions are present in the OS 9 versions of these programs which are available for free download on this site. If you have decided to use Mac OS X for your DVD Authoring environment, the OS 9 versions will not work under any variant of OS X (including the 'Classic' emulation of OS 9). This is because the OS 9 version include low level access methods to allow concurrent access to both the source and the destination volumes, improving performance. This required a rewrite of those sections to use a different mechanism to maintain performance under Mac OS X. The Mac OS X versions of the MPEG Append suite also work under OS 9 (they do not perform as well as the free versions do on OS 9, however). MPEG Append for OS X is available for $49 with a free trial from the link at the right. |
