Interesting Times for Web Video

Well, the landscape is starting to change in the world of web video.  On Sunday a site known as Broadcast Assassin launched, and it's goal is to create a true community for web video creators to meet, and talk.  The early members include Brady, of Tubefilter, Nic, of Film Snobbery, as well as a few others.  That includes Scott, Eric, and myself, as representatives of Issues.  We're talking about everything from how to find representation as a web writer, to debating whether HD is worth it in the land of web video, to discussing the likelihood of a "golden bullet" for the world of web video.  Come on in and join the discussion.

In other news, Scott is planning a pilot for another web series.  It would be completely different from Issues.  The episodes would be shorter, and wouldn't tell a sequential story.  Instead, each episode would stand on it's own - sort of like MTSS or Ask a Ninja.  No timeframe on when we'll be moving forward with the pilot, but Sean Beattie has been writing the script for it, so hopefully once the weather near in the northeast improves, we can get back out there.

Classes have been interesting, since I haven't been to them in a while.  I spent the past week rather sick, and just managed to start feeling better over the weekend.  I've actually been pretty good staying caught up on work.  I guess I'm just lucky that I have that copy of Adobe CS2, so I don't fall behind in Photoshop work.  Tonight's class will introduce me to Illustrator.  I'm planning to do quite a bit of practicing with Illustrator.  Some experience in vector-based drawing can't hurt.  My copy of CS4 should be in my hands shortly, so the more of a foundation I can create with CS2, the less scary CS4 will be for me.

Expect to see some changes over on the Show Reel.  I did upgrade to a Vimeo Plus account, so I'm now able to embed HD videos here on the site.  That means that the Passing Afternoon trailer will be featured, and the Issues clips will stop relying on the Libsyn player, and will also use the Vimeo player.  I'm planning to release another Issues clip next week, with the premier of Episode 5.  Releasing it any sooner would be a spoiler.  I also may start posting some brief photo slideshows to show off a bit of what I've learned in Photoshop and Illustrator.

I'm also applying to a job with MSNBC, to work as a production assistant for Morning Joe.  I don't really expect to get it - I do have a lot of the skills that they're looking for, but I think my lack of a degree in the field of media and communications looks bad to any potential employer.  I just have to keep my fingers crossed that they give my cover letter and resume a decent read-through so they can see that the lack of a degree doesn't necessarily mean the lack of experience.

Thanks for stopping by! - Michelle
