Well, with Issues on hold because of problems with the audio of one of our promos, I thankfully had time to take on another project, this time for Issues actor, CJ Maldonado and altostratus films.
CJ has been working on a short film entitled "A Passing Afternoon." After scheduling conflicts with his director threatened to push completion pass the festival deadlines he was aiming for CJ and I sat down for two days to finalize the edit and get the film onto a High Definition DVD.
The final edit itself took roughly 10 hours. Much of this time was spent creating the film's opening, which is comprised of sound only. For me, it was a wonderful chance to practice what basic sound editing I know at this point. Having successfully layered, echoed, and crossfaded all the appropriate points, we also adjusted some audio levels of the already edited portion of the film that includes video, and laid music behind it and leveled it accordingly. Finally, we had to create the credits. It took far longer than it should have, mainly because of the challenge of rendering anything in HD.
The process of getting the film onto a high definition disc proved to be no easy task. Apple has purposely avoided choosing a side in the HD-DVD/Blu-ray wars at this present time, meaning my ability to work with HD content on DVDs is somewhat limited. Despite, this, after 5 different goes with different files, menu & track settings, and menu & track preferences, I succeeded in burning a DVD that gives us the sharp, HD-quality picture we looked forward to. They will be delivered to CJ today, so he can begin the process of submitting them to festivals. So if you live in the NY/NJ region, keep your eye out for "A Passing Afternoon" on this year's festival circuit!
