Anti-family House Bill 2381 (2006) would ban same-sex marriage in
Pennsylvania
A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the
PA State Constitution that would restrict marriage to opposite-sex couples and
also forbid the creation of any "legal union identical or substantially
equivalent to that of marriage for unmarried individuals" passed the PA House on
Tuesday by a vote of 136 to 61. There is a similar measure before the PA
Senate.
A JOINT
RESOLUTION
Proposing an amendment to
the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, providing for marriage
between one man and one woman.
The
General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby resolves as
follows:
Section 1. The following
amendment to the Constitution of Pennsylvania is proposed in accordance with
Article XI: That Article I be amended by adding a section to
read:
ยง 29.
Marriage.
Only a marriage between one man and
one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this Commonwealth, and
neither the Commonwealth nor any of its political subdivisions shall create or
recognize a legal union identical or substantially equivalent to that of
marriage for unmarried individuals.
