Looking for Cruelty Free Shampoo
Shampoos that have not been tested on animals
(other than homo sapiens
sapiens) and that do not contain animal
by-products have been getting harder to find in the Squirrel Hill area of
Pittsburgh, where I live.
For a long time I used shampoos by St. Ives that
contained a "no animal testing" label; then those products disappeared from my
local Giant Eagle grocery and from the shelves of all the local pharmacies.
Giant Eagle continued to sell Clairol Herbal Essences, which also had a "no
animal testing" label; so I switched to that. Not long ago, Clairol came out
with new varieties of Herbal Essences, changed the labeling and dropped the "no
animal testing" indication. My local Giant Eagle no longer sells a shampoo with
a "no animal testing" label.
Recently
I found that Eckerd pharmacy sells a Herbal shampoo with their own brand name on
it and they compare it to Clairol Herbal Essences, although the label clearly
states that it is not made or distributed by Clairol. It contains a "no animal
testing" label and also claims to contain no animal by-products. I don't like
it as well as Herbal Essences, but I'm not going to use a product tested on
animals if I can readily avoid it.
