Doctors Without Borders has enough emergency aid money for Southeast Asia emergency

The Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) U.S. web site contains a prominent note saying that they "have received sufficient funds for [their] currently foreseen emergency response in South Asia."

MSF's international site clarifies that MSF estimates that it has sufficient funds for the "first phase" of its work in Southeast Asia. One cannot conclude that other aid organizations have raised all the money they need, nor that enough money has been raised for the on-going rebuilding effort, which MSF will not be involved in.

MSF is now requesting that people contribute to their general Emergency Relief Fund, which may be used to support other crisis situations.

Amy Goodman reported on Democracy Now! that some other aid organizations were upset by the announcement, fearing that it would undercut the out-pouring of private giving sparked by the Southeast Asian disaster. This makes me wonder whether those organizations are willing, unlike MSF, to mislead their donors about how their money will be spent.
