Christian group sought to use orphans in its missionary effort

Reports in the Washington Post suggest that the Virginia-based missionary group World Help planned to take 300 Muslim orphans under the age of 12 from Banda Aceh, put them in a Christian children's home, indoctrinate them in Christian mythology, and use them to spread Christianity among the Aceh people.

Apparently, World Help has found it difficult in the past to proselytize to the Aceh people. The catastrophe caused by the earthquake and tsunami, and the resulting desperate need for outside aid, has made the country more vulnerable to outside influence and World Help thought it could take advantage of that to further its own cause.

Anyone who thinks evangelical Christians are altruistic doesn't understand Christianity. The goal is to turn as many people as possible into Christians, by whatever means.

World Help's plan has been thwarted by the government of Indonesia's refusal to allow the children to be placed in non-Muslim homes. A report in today's Washington Post says that World Help never had custody of any of the 300 orphans, but that World Help is still "seeking other Indonesian orphans to be placed in a Christian home."
