Helen Thomas vs. Scott McClellan on illegal wiretapping

Helen Thomas asked White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan yesterday whether President Bush thinks he should obey the law. McClellan did not answer her question.

Instead, he told her, "I guess you didn't pay attention to the attorney general's hearing earlier today, because he walked through very clearly the rationale behind this [wiretapping without a warrant] program."

He also told her that "previous administrations have used the same authority." Her response to that was, "That doesn't make it legal. They broke the law, that's too bad."

A video of the exchange is available on the Crooks and Liars site: here.
