Katrina disaster relief effort is costing the government $2 billion per day

The Associated Press reported that estimates for relief and recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina are as high as $150 billion.

The BBC reported that Treasury Secretary John Snow said U.S. economic growth is likely to slow by as much as 0.5% during the rest of the year due to Katrina.

Considering the poor quality of the federal relief effort thus far, one can't help but wonder what $2 billion a day is buying?
