Bush says he doesn't approve of the Dred Scott decision of
1857
When asked who he would pick to fill a Supreme
Court vacancy and why, Bush gave examples of judges he wouldn't pick. He said
he wouldn't pick someone who would approve the decision in the Dred Scott case
of 1857. Slave owners beware!
Does Bush seriously think this example is
supposed to be enlightening or relevant to the concerns of contemporary
Americans? Does he think perhaps that African Americans will feel better
knowing that he's not going to try to legalize slavery? Does he think that the
issue of slavery is still a live issue? Does Bush know what century he's living
in?
