Four Golden Globes for Brokeback Mountain

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded Golden Globes to Brokeback Mountain for Best (Dramatic) Motion Picture, Best Director (Ang Lee), Best Screenplay (Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana), and Best Original Song (Gustavo Santaolalla and Bernie Taupin, "A love that will never grow old").

Brokeback Mountain received nominations, but not awards, in three other categories: Best Performance by an Actor (Heath Ledger), Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Michelle Williams), and Best Original Score (Gustavo Santaolalla).

The New York Times reported that Brokeback Mountain is showing in only 683 theaters and has taken in $30.8 million. The Times said that "Focus Features, which is releasing 'Brokeback,' has lately been publishing ads showing the lead actors with their on-screen wives, rather than as lovers." Do they seriously think they can hide the fact that it's a gay love story?

Philip Seymour Hoffman won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Dramatic Motion Picture for his portrayal of Truman Capote in the film Capote. Felicity Huffman won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Dramatic Motion Picture for her portrayal of a pre-operative, male-to-female transsexual, in Transamerica.
