Tribute to "Yip" Harburg

Thursday's edition of Democracy Now! is a tribute to Yip Harburg, the man who wrote the lyrics to the Wizard of Oz. The story of Yip's life and work is narrated by his son, Ernie Harburg.

In addition to the Wizard of Oz, Yip Harburg wrote the words to "Brother Can You Spare a Dime," "Finian's Rainbow," "April in Paris" and other popular songs. He was blacklisted in the McCarthy era.

You can hear the entire show online here. It is well worth listening to. There was an earlier tribute to Yip Harburg on National Public Radio, which can be heard in RealAudio format here.
