Leonard Bernstein's CandideCarnegie Mellon's Schools of Drama and Music are
currently presenting Leonard Bernstein's
Candide
(the Royal National Theatre version) in the Philip Chosky Theater at Carnegie
Mellon University.
This musical is very entertaining and the story
follows the Voltaire novel reasonably well. The set is minimal, but the set
design is very effective in presenting the sense of the characters traveling
from place to place. The orchestra is good and the cast have very strong
voices, although I can only speak about the cast in half the shows. There is
dual casting for all the major roles and they alternate casts between
performances. The show I saw was dominated by senior musical theater majors
from the drama department. I enjoyed it very
much.
There are six remaining performances April 26-30. Call the Box Office (412-268-2407) or visit the Drama web site (http://www.cmu.edu/cfa/drama) for tickets. Posted: Sunday - April 24, 2005 at 05:32 PM |
