Play: José Rivera's "Marisol" is currently onstage at Carnegie
Mellon
Marisol
is a fantasy play about homeless people and violence on the street. It is
premised on the idea that the cause of the decline of order and civilization is
the waning of the influence of God in the world. It promotes the view that the
appropriate response is for people to start standing up for themselves and stop
being dependent on divine intervention to save them.
The production at Carnegie Mellon is done in a
small theater, in the round, with a minimal set, but what there is is very
effectively used. Direction, acting and lighting design are very good.
There are two remaining performances,
today at 3:30 and at 8:00 PM, in the Rauh Studio Theater in the Purnell Center.
Free tickets are available one hour before the show.
