3,025 American soldiers dead and 22,951 wounded in Iraq


As of Jan. 18, 3,025 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq since the war began and at least 22,951 have been wounded. 10,218 of the wounded were hurt seriously enough that they could not be returned to duty within 72 hours. Over 54,196 Iraqi civilians have been killed according to the Iraq Body Count website.



(The above chart of U.S. military fatalities is based on the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count web site, which gets its numbers from public data provided by the U.S. government. The numbers of wounded are from the Department of Defense web site, as of Jan. 16 at 10 a.m.)

Additional "coalition" deaths include: 129 Britain, 33 Italy, 18 Ukraine, 18 Poland, 13 Bulgaria, 11 Spain, 5 El Salvador, 6 Denmark, 4 Slovakia, 2 Thailand, 2 Estonia, 2 Netherlands, 2 Australia, 2 Romania, 3 Latvia, 1 Hungary, and 1 Kazakhstan.

The Iraq Body Count web site reports that between 54,196 and 59,850 Iraqi civilians have been killed as a result of the military intervention in Iraq.

According to the Cost of War site, the war in Iraq has currently cost the U.S. in excess of $359,557,000,000.
