Hubble Space Telescope may get an extra year of life

New Scientist reported that NASA programmers have figured out how to stabilize the Hubble Space Telescope with only two gyros, which could give the HST an extra year of life.

The HST currently has four working gyros and it has been thought that three were required to stabilize the telescope for good photos. NASA has developed and tested new software that demonstrates that "almost indistinguishable" pictures can be taken with only two gyros.
