My review of Gutkind's Almost Human: Making Robots Think


I recently read Lee Gutkind's book Almost Human: Making Robots Think, published by W. W. Norton in 2006. It is about the place where I've spent most of my working life, so I was curious to see if he told the truth about the people I know. The rapid manufacturing project I work on is not mentioned in this book.

America (The Book) Unbanned in Mississippi 


The board of the Jackson-George Regional Library System in Mississippi voted 5-2 to reverse the ban on Jon Stewart's America (The Book), after receiving more than 400 emails, 90% from out of state and almost all of them critical of the ban.

Jon Stewart's best seller America (The Book), A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction has been banned by the director of the Jackson-George Regional Library System in Mississippi, according to the Associated Press.

Chaucer's Copyist Revealed 


The Guardian reports on a bit of detective work that will no doubt interest many lovers of English literature. By means of handwriting analysis, the scribe who copied Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and other works has been identified as Adam Pinkhurst, "a son of a small landowner brought up a short distance from London, who went into the City to learn a trade and make his living as a writer of court letters."
