Chaucer's Copyist Revealed

The Guardian reports on a bit of detective work that will no doubt interest many lovers of English literature. By means of handwriting analysis, the scribe who copied Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and other works has been identified as Adam Pinkhurst, "a son of a small landowner brought up a short distance from London, who went into the City to learn a trade and make his living as a writer of court letters."

This identification indirectly helps to authenticate the two most authoritative texts of the Canterbury Tales.
