Fred Phelps applauded the deaths of the Swedish victims of the Tsunami

Fred Phelps, leader of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, and one of the big laughing-stocks of conservative Christianity in the United States, thanked "God" for the tsunami that killed upwards of 150,000 people in Southeast Asia.

In a Dec. 29 press release headlined "Thank God for Tsunami & 2,000 dead Swedes!!!" Phelps wonders how many of the Swedes are "fags & dykes." Remarking that "Sweden has enacted criminal laws to suppress the truth of God about fags and dykes," Phelps wonders whether "Sweden can pass another law — making it a crime for God to send earthquakes and tidal waves to kill vacationing Swedish fags & dykes."

The BBC World News estimate on Thursday of the number of missing Swedes was 1,500. Sweden's prime minister said that 44 Swedes have been confirmed dead at that time. The BBC has not been reporting, as far as I know, on the number of gay Swedes missing. I suppose in Fred Phelps's world view it's just fine for "God" to bring about the death of 150,000 people, including children, in order to kill a few "fags and dykes."
