In the late '80s through mid-'90s, I worked quite a bit as a performance artist. These days I perform rarely, and then mainly do either one-off cabaret events with friends for fun, or longer pieces built around my fiction.
For the 2005 Bumbershoot Seattle Arts Festival I presented a combination of videos and spoken word adapted from One of These Things is Not Like the Other. The audio is either original or found sound samples; the video is mostly found footage taken from public domain archives, then manipulated and re-edited. Car-crash safety films meets white-trashsploitation trailers, mixed with police training films, all under a sheen of erotic tension -- sometimes direct illustrations of the text, other times more evocative of mood or overall themes.
The clips below are edited excerpts from this performance, in order from top to bottom. Scroll down to watch the whole show. NOTE: I'm no longer hosting these myself; the links will take you to YouTube. Btw, check out Democracy (aka "TiVO for the internet") for searching multiple video sites WITH DOWNLOADING.
