In a previous life, he was a dalmatianI live a block from a fire station -- Fire Station
number 2, to be exact.
After the first few nights, I learned to sleep
right through the sirens.
But, when awake, I always take note of the sirens. Those guys go out a lot. And, especially when all the equipment would roll at once, I always used to think, "Gee, I wonder where they're going?" But several years ago I put aside the wondering and discovered the Seattle Fire Department's real-time 911 log. It updates once a minute. I keep it open in a tab in Safari and anytime I hear the trucks roll, I can look and see where they are going. If it's an actual fire in the neighborhood, I can drop what I'm doing and go have a look. But most of the time it's just an aid call. The SFD also has the 911 log for previous days. That is less interesting. Posted: Wed - July 27, 2005 at 11:59 AM |
