Another deadly shooting, almost in my neighborhoodI heard the fire equipment rolling to this
one last night, and looked it up on the Seattle Fire Department's
real-time
911 log, so I knew it was down on the southwest corner of lower Queen
Anne on Elliott Avenue, and that it was an "Assault with Weapons."
This morning we learn it was a teenage private
party in a rented empty storefront, and some gang members showed up a little
before midnight and demanded entrance, and there was an exchange of words
followed by a discharge of firearms. The dead kid was 16 and the wounded kid
was 14.
Now, what the heck are 14-year-old and 16-year-old kids doing at a party in the fringe of downtown at midnight on a weekday Hmm? Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the police force of Seattle is approximately two hundred officers understaffed. "Budget problems," the City Council says, as they spend fifty-some-odd millions of dollars on a streetcar for the neighborhood with the best bus service in the city.
