Pipe down or pay upSpeaking of things that are illegal while
driving in Washington, it
is illegal to use your horn except in emergency
situations.
The fine is
$124.
I have noticed, over the years, a lot more gratuitous horn-honking in Seattle. This is especially noticeable downtown. It's all these people who moved in from places where the people are more voluble. Okay, loudmouthed. In the old days, before Microsoft, everyone who moved to Seattle was from Scandinavia or the upper Midwest, and they are taciturn folk who don't honk. Your auto horn is not for arguing with people, or telling them you don't like the way they are driving, or inviting them to accelerate from the stoplight more quickly. It is for warning folks when your brakes go out on the Counterbalance, and stuff like that. The cops need to get out their ticket books more often on this one.
