Sharpshooting was not her talent, back then, but is nowYou may have heard that Miss
America 1944, 82-year-old Venus Ramey, apprehended a prowler on her Kentucky
farm by shooting out the tires on his car.
He was coming out of the shed where some farm
implements had previously been stolen. He tried to talk his way out of it, but
she decided he wasn't going anywhere, and shot out the tires with her snub-nose
.38 revolver.
"If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now, " she said. The intruder was charged with misdemeanor trespassing. Three other people were held for questioning and released; the article doesn't say, but one assumes they were in the car. Before anyone squawks in the Comments, lets just make it clear that use of deadly force in defense of one's property is absolutely reasonable. Your property is how you store your labor, and your labor is your life. Miss Ramey's best, or worst, line from the Associated Press story is this: "I'm trying to live a quiet, peaceful life and stay out of trouble, and all it is, is one thing after another." Which is like most of our lives, I guess. Posted: Fri - April 20, 2007 at 06:53 PM |
