Yet another public works update, interesting only to me

The other day I walked down Fourth Avenue and inspected the places where they have ripped up the right lane for concrete bus stop pads. They already had the concrete poured in the hole at Lenora Street. Here is what the hole at Bell Street looked like:

You can't really see it in the photos, but at the edges are visible the many strata of the construction of the street: Asphalt over concrete over brick over concrete.

That was a few days ago. Yesterday, they poured the concrete in front of the fire station.

Today, they are pouring the concrete at the Fourth & Wall bus stop.

It appears they are putting the concrete in at an angle, to approximate the crown on Fourth. I'm not sure how that will ensure a flat roll-on, roll-off boarding experience for the bus riders.

Oh, and the sidewalks are back up and running on Third Avenue. I await with interest the planting of new trees.

Did you know that the trees in the Denny Regrade were planted for the 1962 World's Fair? Before that, the Regrade was treeless, but they wanted to spruce up the neighborhood between the fairgrounds and downtown, and trees were the simplest and quickest way to do it.
