Jim Delany dons tube top and mini-skirt and walks the street

It says here that the Big Ten conference -- the original college athletic conference -- is considering adding another team. Currently, the Big Ten has eleven teams, and they are thinking about adding a twelfth.

This has come up before and been rejected. Why has it come up again? Because this fall the Big Ten is launching its cable-TV Big Ten Network, and Commissioner Jim Delany days, "The broader [the network] is distributed, the more value [expansion] has. We have eight states. With expansion, you could have nine."

That's right, he wants to expand the conference to feed the network. That is so upside-down and backwards that it is making me nauseous. That is the stuff of the lesser conferences that have divisions and made-for-TV "championship games."

It's like finding out your sister got arrested in a prostitution sweep.

I guess this was to be expected. When the Big Ten adopted a post-season basketball "championship" tournament a few years back, it showed it could be just a money-grubbing and sport-denegrating as the rest.

But I don't have to like it. Sometimes I wish my alma mater, Purdue, would go Division III and leave the strumpet life behind.
