Happy Long Pants Day Observed
Can you believe that it’s finally Happy Long Pants Day?
Sunday night a strong, cold wind began blowing and blew all night. By
this morning the air was considerably colder and the wind was still blowing.
There was no doubt at all that it was not a day for shorts. Hallelujah! I
noticed that everyone at work had lengthened their trousers as
well.
I checked back in this blog and discovered to my delight that
the day was thus christened first, on this very date, in this blog, three years
ago. Yes, October 22nd, 2004 was the very first Happy Long Pants
Day.
Please, fellow observers, remember that this is no artificial
bank holiday. There’s no need to sweat within the oppression of long pants
if October 22nd arrives next year and it’s still in the 80s. No, you need
to wait until the high is in the low 70s, so that you can wear those leg sleeves
in a true spirit of celebration.
I note with some distaste that the
temperature is going to climb back up this week, but tonight, let us put aside
such thoughts and cheer the chill! Happy Long Pants Day, everyone!
