Poem: Missed Exit

This came to me tonight. Perhaps I should not give any voice to what my brother calls “post-10:30 thoughts”, but just in case, here they are.

Got that haunted feeling
Like a tingle on my back
Must have not paid my attention
Overlooked a crucial fact

The highway is unrolling
And the car is full of gas
But I’m staring down the signs
Because I think my time has passed

Looks like I missed my exit
Guess this is what I get
Tried to grab some glory
Got a handful of regret
