Winter Storm further south
The Weather Service is predicting a major cool
down for Las Vegas on Thursday through Saturday. Some of the coldest air of the
year is headed our way (highs in the 40s) and coupled with some moisture could
mean some snow showers in Las Vegas. Since Vegas only gets cold enough for snow
a few times during the winter (maybe 10-15 days) we have to have moisture at the
same time. Just about every year I have seen flurries here and I have seen a few
flakes as late as mid-April. From the NWS scientific forecast
discussion:
Since this is at
the extreme end of the spectrum as
far as cold air invasions are
concerned...will continue to forecast
high temperatures close to low
maximum records. May not see much
rise in temperatures Friday afternoon from
overnight lows on Friday morning.
Snow levels using traditional
methods
still look to fall to 2500 feet or lower so snow in the Las
Vegas Valley is still a real
possibility.
Guess I should pull
the sulcata and leopard tortoises out of yard and back inside for a few days.
