Hottest July.... Ever!
Hottest July ever in Las Vegas...
July 2005 in Las Vegas began with
temperatures only slightly above
normal for
the first twelve days. High temperatures reached between
104 and 109 with low temperatures remaining
around 80. The monsoon
flow typically sets up
around the second week in July and is
characterized by high pressure over The Four
Corners
region... providing a moist south to
southeast flow over the region.
However... high
pressure remained further west and set up over
Nevada. High temperatures beginning on July
12th reached 111 degrees
and did not drop
below 110 degrees until July 21st when the high was
109 degrees. Overnight lows remained extremely
warm with several
days not dropping below 90.
Prior to 2005 there were only 8 days
where the
low temperature did not drop below 90 degrees. This month
the low temperature remained above 90 degrees
5 times with 3 of
those remaining above 92.
The dome of high pressure finally began to
shift east which allowed the moist southerly
flow into the region.
Temperatures began to
cool with highs only reaching 103 on the 22nd
and 91 on the 24th. Measurable rain only fell
on one day when just
over half an inch /0.52"/
was recorded on the 24th while a total of
5
days had at least a trace of rain. Thunderstorms were recorded on
4 days during the month which is normal.
Precipitation in July ended
up being 8
hundredths on an inch above normal.
