Five records and a huge tie 



One temperature record tied... five broken in Las Vegas today...


... All time record high temperature for Las Vegas tied today...

At 323 PM this afternoon... the Mercury reached 117 degrees at
McCarran International Airport. This reading tied the all time
record high last set on July 24th in 1942. Official Las Vegas
records have been kept since 1937.

... Daily record high temperature broken today...

The high temperature of 117 degrees broke the record for the date...
which was 115 degrees set in 1989.

... All time daily average temperature broken today...

The high temperature today of 117 degrees combined with the morning
low of 95 degrees resulted in a daily average of 106 degrees. This
average of 106 degrees broke the all time daily average temperature
of 105 degrees... set just two days ago... July 17th.

... All time record high minimum temperature broken today...

The morning low at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas was
95 degrees. This broke the previous all time record high minimum
temperature of 93 degrees... also set just two days ago... July
17th.

... Record broken for consecutive days with high temperatures of 115
degrees or greater...

Today is the fourth day in a row the high temperature has been 115
degrees or greater. The previous record was 3 days in a row and
occurred 3 times... in July of 1942... June of 1950 and June of 1994.

... Record for number of high temperatures of 115 degrees or greater
in one month broken...

Todays high of 117 degrees at McCarran International Airport was the
fifth time this month that the temperature has been 115 degrees or
higher. This breaks the previous record of 4 days set just
yesterday... the 18th.


Note... the records of all time daily average temperature and all
time record high minimum are dependent upon the temperature at 1 am
PDT... midnight local Standard time. If the temperature gets below 95
degrees..these two records will be affected.
