Students and student information
The Achievers welcome students of all disabilities. Our staff of volunteers have experience teaching skiing to many disabilities including visual impairment, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, paraplegia, amputation, Down's Syndrome, autism, hearing impairment and others. Our membership includes approximately nine PSIA adaptive certified instructors as well as alpine certified instructors. Our inventory of adaptive equipment includes mono-skis, bi-skis, a dual-ski and other assistive devices for disabled skiers.
In order for a student to go on a trip, the following items need to be done:
1. Become a member of Disabled Sports, Orange County
2. Return the Physician evaluation/release and Medical history forms (in Acrobat .pdf format below) to our membership chairperson after your physician has filled them out.
(Don't have Adobe Acrobat? Get it here.)
3. Attend a general meeting and be evaluated by our medical staff.
4. Sign up for a trip (via a trip reservation form in our monthly newsletters, or at a general meeting)
5. (Optional) Sign up and pay for group arranged lodging in Mammoth Lakes.
6. Go skiing/snowboarding!
Students and/or their families are responsible for transportation to and from Mammoth Lakes and in town during a trip, though there may be car-pooling opportunities available.
