29 February 2008 - New unified body for angling?
Towards the end of 2007, the Anglers Conservation Association (ACA), the National Association of Fisheries and Angling Consultatives (NAFAC) and the National Federation of Anglers (NFA), with the National Federation of Sea Anglers (NFSA) expressing an interest, agreed to consider the setting up of a unified body for angling. This potential new organisation will represent the interests of ALL anglers and fishery managers in England. The major angling and fisheries organisations believe that, if they are to have the status and influence when dealing with Government, its agencies and other relevant bodies and achieve maximum impact at national and international levels, then they must unite into one single organisation.
The ACA [NB - AKAC is a member of the ACA] is currently looking into the proposal and is going through a consultative period with its members about the new organisation. To date the response from its members has been very supportive. An email update, dated 28 February 2008, from the ACA, giving further information, in particular, answering queries raised by the membership, can be read on this website by following this link.
[NB - if you wish to receive email updates direct from the ACA you may subscribe to their email service.]

12 August 2007 - The future of fishing at Keynes Country Park
I would like to dispel the rumours circulating, that Ashton Keynes Angling Club (AKAC) is about to lose the fishing rights for the Keynes Country Park lakes 31 & 32. This is simply not true as AKAC is currently in negotiation with the Cotswold Water Park Society (CWPS) to secure a long term lease to control the angling on the lakes 31,32, 34 and 56, covering the Keynes Park lakes (31 & 32) , Cokes Pit (34) and Neighbridge lake (56).
These rumours stem from the fact that the Cotswold Water Park Society is seeking a sub leaseholder to take on the running of the Keynes Country Park site. However this will NOT affect the right of the Ashton Keynes Angling Club to continue to control and allow fishing on the lakes by its members, holiday permit and day ticket holders. In fact all the fish in those waters belong to AKAC.
So please, carry on enjoying the wonderful fishing that we have and pay no attention to the rumours circulating.

AKAC Club Secretary
28 July 2007 - Flood situation at Thamesmead
The entry lane, the gravel track between the river and the Thamesmead 'A' & 'B' lakes, plus the bank between the 'A' & 'B' lakes are all accessible. Both lakes are high and the banks are very soft, so please exercise care and only park your car on firm ground. [NB - Be aware that there is a Met Office severe weather warning for heavy rain in the area between, 1800hrs saturday 28 July until 0900hrs sunday 29 July - flooding may occur]
29 June 2007 - Litter on Club waters
All members are reminded of AKAC General Rule 1 concerning litter:-
No litter to be left on the Club Fisheries, any member fishing a swim with litter or used line present will be expelled.
Recently there have been TWO INCIDENTS at Thamesmead fishery, where the owner of the water has reported litter being left by club members. This is totally unacceptable and could quite easily result in the club losing water because of somebody else's laziness. If you see ANY litter lying about on club waters, please pick it up. Thank you. The bailiffs have been instructed to enforce General rule 1.
