Tell us about features you want to see in a future version of Photopolis.
Short term improvements
- Photopolis should be able to read more image data formats. Only JPEG as of now.
- Better clipping/scaling for photos that are used as textures and in slideshows.
- You can leave the city. Movement should be limited to inside the city.
- On the first start the help screen should be shown.
- On Mac OS X an executable with static libraries should be created.
Expansion of the Photopolis concept
- Something similar could be developed for an audio collection. Houses would consist of album artwork. For the street grid a meaningful layout would need to be found.
Graphics
- The base for city is not planar but hilly.
- The city is on an island, surrounded by the sea (Reflections).
- Houses cast a shadow.
- Create more house forms.
- The streets look more like streets (Bump mapping).
Usabilty
- Photos in upper stories are not visible very well. The user can select a loupe to better see those photos.
- Quaters that contain no houses are filled up with landmarks. This makes the experience more enjoyable and navigation easier.
- In map mode you can jump to a new position.
- In the preview area for a selected house the user can cycle through the photos.
Further ideas
- One quater still represents a months. However, houses in the quater represent an "event". Events can be your birthday party, a skiing trip, etc. Events are automatically extracted from the photo library.
- Photopolis can open the Photopolis libraries of multiple users. The libraries are displayed in the same city. This allows the users to see what they have been doing at the same time.
- The selection mode allows tagging of whole houses and single photos. Those groups can then be used for other purposes.
- Direct integration with popular photo library managers such as iPhoto.
- To each house music can be attached. When one approaches the house the music becomes louder. When a slideshow is started the music plays too.
- Port to Linux (should be easy)
