OK, he's starting to look a bit like an older version of Jack on Will & Grace, but he hasn't lost a step. Excellent version of his backing band, Luna Negra -- Jon Gagan five string base, Ron Wagner -- percussion, and Robby Rothschild -- percussion (Liebert refers to them as his "rubber band" as it keeps growing or shrinking).
Beautiful night at Boulder's Chautauqua. Good crowd. Sound was excellent. Nothing beats seeing talented musicians close up and playing wonderful music and enjoying themselves. Good mix of old and new with the classics like "Barcelona Nights" and "Santa Fe" interspersed with stuff from his latest, La Semana.
For those not into Ottmar, he's a very German guitarist whose style of playing is flamenco but with a heavy dose of new age and a bit of jazz and rock. There were flashes of Carlos Santana every time he got out his Strat. The five string base could sometimes double as a lead instrument and the percussionists were a real crowd pleaser with their "drum duets" and solos.
Ottmar mostly plays instead of talking but he did say that his website will be ready to sell his songs a la iTunes Music Store but with the added bonus that he's releasing the copyright so that purchased songs can be used in projects like movies or podcasts. More on this later.
Now it remains to see Ottmar in his home base of Santa Fe.
